YouTube Feeds Not Updating

As far as I can tell none of the YouTube Feeds have updated or pulled in videos for about 8 hours. Just me? Known issue? Thanks!

they’ve been going down for several hours every day for a bit now. it’s not newsblur.

Wow! If they do away with RSS that will really stink.

We’ve been handling youtube not having RSS for years, but if you subscribe directly to the youtube RSS, then NewsBlur lets it go. But I built a YouTube API feed fetcher that does the RSS work, just on the API side.

If you share a newsblur.com/site/<feed_id_number>/ url I can figure out what’s going on.

For instance, https://www.newsblur.com/site/9293728/joe-rogan-experience-clips

There was a video released over 8 hours ago, but it still hasn’t shown up. No YouTube videos on my several feeds have shown new videos for over 8 hours. Even if I insta fetch. I hadn’t noticed much of a lag until yesterday.

To be clear on the best way to subscribe to YouTube channels, I usually add the channel url, like https://youtube.com/@jreclips . Is that the best way? It makes the RSS URL http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/base/users/jreclips/uploads

Maybe I’ve been doing it wrong all this time. There are so many useful features, and I still don’t seem to be aware of all of them.

Thanks as always!

Found it. Your feed was fine and the YouTube fetcher was working. NewsBlur fetches YouTube through their official API, and that API has a daily quota that resets at midnight Pacific. Over the past week the number of YouTube feeds on NewsBlur jumped 13x, almost certainly people fleeing YouTube’s broken RSS feeds, and that blew through the quota partway into each day. Every YouTube feed would then stall until the reset, which is why your videos showed up 8 to 14 hours late and always overnight.

I deployed a fix that cuts the number of API calls per fetch by a third and makes quota failures visible so feeds back off instead of hammering a dead API. I’m also requesting a quota increase from Google. You should see videos show up starting tomorrow, as there will still be a stall late in the day until the bigger quota comes through.

To answer your question, the gdata URL you’re subscribed with is ancient but works fine. NewsBlur recognizes any YouTube URL and routes it through the API, so no need to resubscribe.
