Unread stories disappeared & not showing in read stories either

Hi Samuel,

Heavy web user here. Approximately an hour ago I left several stories unread (as I often do) to be able to go back later when I had the time (they mostly were YouTube videos in my feed). All of a sudden, the ones I had waiting for me UNread in my “news” folder disappeared from that folder and since I often mistakenly mark things read before I want to, I was not concerned because I ALWAYS simply look in the READ STORIES folder (section below) and I can go back and mark them unread again (where they return to my feed folder above), or simply just look a them there. HOWEVER - today for the first time I’ve EVER experienced, the stories I recall leaving as UNREAD did not (and still do not) appear in the READ STORIES section. I went to the Youtube pages just to be sure that those particular videos that were in my feeds (that I could happen to recall leaving unread) had not been deleted from YouTube, but they had not been deleted and still were posted on YT (the ones I could remember). I’m perturbed because I cannot recall ALL of the stories I’ve lost track of, but it’s more frightening to lose my confidence in Newsblur because it has failed me for the very first time in many years. (The stories were from today (or last night) so not too old to show up.) If there is any way for me to “go back in time” and take a look at what I had unread at noon (EST) please let me know, or if you can think of any reason that stories can just DISAPPEAR from feeds where they once were and also not appearing in READ STORIES section. As always, I appreciate all of your hard work! - Have a good day Samuel!

I looked into your account and I can see what happened. Five feeds in your news folder had a “mark as read” action at 11:35 AM EST today, which pushed the read threshold forward past the stories you were saving. The affected feeds are:

- ColbertLateShow’s YouTube Videos (5 stories)

- The Intercept (8 stories)

- The Daily Show (8 stories)

- CSPAN’s YouTube Videos (1 story)

- Slate Magazine (74 stories)

This is why they also don’t show in Read Stories. When stories are marked read individually (by opening them), they show up in Read Stories. But when a batch “mark as read” moves the threshold forward, stories that fall behind it are treated as read without being individually tracked.

The stories are still in the database, they’re just hidden behind that read threshold. I’ve gone ahead and restored the unread state on those 5 feeds so the stories should reappear. Let me know if they’re back.

The most common cause of this is accidentally hitting “Mark all as read” on a folder or river view. If you use multiple devices or apps, it could have also come from another session. But shift+a will do it, as that keyboard shortcut is hooked up to mark feed as read.
