On a 2012 Nexus 7 updated to KitKat, story text is very small, even with text size set to the largest value. At smaller size settings, it becomes even tinier. Please make it possible to get larger story text again.
I have both the old N7 and the new N7. Let me upgrade and see what I can do about the font size. I’m pushing out a major Android update soon, so I’m tying up loose ends now.
Awesome, thank you. As it stands it’s on the borderline of being unreadable by me (I’m visually impaired).
I see. I’m looking at the font size and it’s pretty big already. But I can see how it could still be too small.
It was fine before the KK update, so if you can make it behave similarly to what it did in JB, I’ll be happy.
Hmm, that’s going to be tough to fix then. I have the latest N7 and it’s on JB. I don’t have the option to install KK. And I don’t have OS-specific font sizes. I wonder if there’s some global setting in KK that you can adjust.
There isn’t for this. I already have the system font setting maxed, and it has no effect at all. I understand that there has been a fundamental change in the underlying text-rendering system in KK; this same font-shrinking (and other text layout issues) has been happening on several apps.
If you don’t have KK available, it’s going to be effectively impossible to make progress. Leave it be until you get your update. I will be as patient as I can manage.
The N7s are being updated to KK this week, I believe.
A further note – it turns out that the app isn’t honoring the default text size setting. If I load a story, go to settings, and select “Adjust text size”, it shows as “XL”. But if I then change that to a smaller setting and back to XL, the text is then considerably larger than it was previously. Making the default of XL actually work at story load time would be a big help (although even XL is still on the small side on my N7 with KK).
