I have folder filter set to all stories and newest first , since feeds have different polling rates the order get messed up a bit and when i have a new unread article that’s older than the newest articles on top it gets stuck , clicking on N for next unread makes the reader go through older articles looking for the unread article but it doesn’t find it or takes too long to fo do , the only way to fix it is to manually open the folder and look for the feed and open it , hopefully this can be fixed
update : clicking next unread doesn’t just take too long , it goes through the entire folder , doesn’t find it and just goes to the next folder instead
maybe have an option to show all stories but filtered by unread first ?
bumping this since the issue is still there : basically i want to filter all stories newest first but when the reader fetches a story that’s older from a slow feed , it doesn’t show up in the folder , i would have to either set to unread only (not what i want) , or clicking on the feed manually and finding the story (what i have been doing for years) but it’s not practical
if my explanation is confusing i can make a video explanation
Knowing the stuck story title and feed would help immensely!
right now it’s happening with feed : F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository , story title : in the mirror universe
but it’s not feed related , it’s how the reader behaves , it happens with all feeds
there are 4 stuck feeds in my account now , i will let them pile up so you can try to troubleshoot it , thanks
Android next unread seems to be fixed , but the webapp still has it (you can check the 2 stuck articles on my hot folder)
Can you give me exact story titles and feeds? I took a look and I see 2 older stories from HN. Are those the ones you’re seeing? F-Droid has none.
the fdroid ones got marked read when I was testing with the Android app , current stuck unread :
feed : Blogs on PixelUnion , article : Adieu Windows
feed : folo , article TGIFolo
and the two stories from HN
now android has same issue again (even when it worked it was very slow) , all articles in yt folder are stuck for reference
Confirmed all four on the backend. Story records are intact, unread sets are correct, nothing stale:
- Folo, “TGIFolo desktop v1.6.1 and mobile v0.5.0 are rolling out!” (Apr 15 05:38)
- Blogs on PixelUnion, “Adieu Windows: Why the French Government Is Choosing Linux” (Apr 14 00:00)
- Hacker News: Newest, “Someone bought 30 WordPress plugins…” (Apr 13 17:54)
- Hacker News: Newest, “Tell HN: Docker pull fails in Spain…” (Apr 12 12:28)
Every other unread in your HOT folder today is from Apr 15 between 07:56 and 14:17, so those four are the oldest unreads in the folder, which lines up with what you described.
In the meantime, try switching the folder view from “All stories” to “Unread” and set the sort to “Oldest first.” That pulls the stuck ones straight to the top of the list and you can blow through them with N without having to scroll past the newer stories.
