Stuck NewsBlur Blog Post

The NewsBlur Blog posted an article on March 1 titled “A mini media player for podcasts, audio, and video”.

No matter how many times I mark this article as read, the next time I refresh the feed, the article re-appears as unread.

What can I do to kill this thing dead?

When this happens to me, I just select the entire title (which is unlikely to ever repeat again, and as a result, nothing else will be affected) and give it a thumbs down in the intelligence trainer.

Thanks for reporting this, @hans_derycke. This was a bug where unpublishing and republishing a blog post caused the read state to get out of sync between two internal Redis sets. When you marked the story as read, an optimization incorrectly thought it was already handled and skipped the update, so it kept coming back.

I’ve fixed your account and deployed a code fix so this won’t happen again.

i have a similar problem: a blog post keeps showing up unread in global stories even though there’s no change in its share/comment counts. https://blog.newsblur.com/2026/03/13/web-feeds/

@steanne, your issue was different but related. The “Web Feeds” post was shared by several users before I republished it with a corrected date, which changed the story’s internal ID. The shared story records were still pointing to the old ID, which no longer exists – so it showed as unread but was invisible in the list, making it impossible to mark as read. I’ve cleaned up the stale records, so it should be gone now.
