I have a weird problem. I really love NewsBlur and was going to subscribe today. But now when I go to the site, there’s an ad stuck in the box where the story is ususally shown, and none of my feeds appear. No matter what I click on, I see the same ad and nothing else. I have a screenshot if it would be helpful to see it, but I don’t think I can post it here.
This happens in Firefox, on my Macbook Air running Lion, and on a PC running windows.

I assume you’ve closed and reopened your browser at this point, which should have fixed the issue. I’ve noticed this myself on occasion. Unfortunately, this is hard to get rid of, since the ad is coming from one of the Original site views. The only way to fix it is to remember that the site that spawned the ad, reopen it with the Feed view open. That way when you load the site again, it will load the Feed view and not the Original view. Not the most intuitive, but just know that it saves your last view.
By the way, do you know which site is causing the ad popup? If I had that site, I might be incentivized to create a new feature that automatically chooses the Feed view for new subscribers.
Thanks for the response. I figured out that closing and opening the tab makes the ad go away. I like NewsBlur enough that this is just a small inconvenience to me. Unfortunately, I don’t remember what site this is, but the next time it happens, I’ll try to remember and let you know.
OK! Here’s the example. It’s an ad from slate.com, and the problem occurs when I click on the feed for “The Explainer” (and perhaps a few other slate feeds – I follow several – but definitely the explainer. Here’s the link to the page:
http://www.slate.com/id/2304427/
It’s the ad that’s currently on that page for United Healthcare with the “Health in numbers” campaign.
Droid-Life.com’s feed does it for me. All sites work fine until I add that feed, then it injects an ad into every other feed I attempt to see until I remove it.
I’m thinking what I should do is add an option to Site Settings that allows you to force the site to only open in the Feed view. (Really, it should just show which view you have as the default.)
Will be adding this very soon.
