Problem loading web interface with Mac Safari 5.1.10

Apple’s Safari 5.1.10 is the last version of Safari for OSX 10.6.8 (yes, I know it’s old…). It had been working properly until the middle of the day today, when suddenly the left column (i.e. the list of all the feeds) failed to display. Everything works normally if I instead use Opera’s newest version.

If whatever changed that ‘broke’ Safari 5.1.10 can be undone, that’d be appreciated.

I just silently released a big update (the organizer), so that’s what caused it. Unfortunately, it cannot be undone, so we need to get to the bottom of this. As for old Safari’s, if you can tell me the error I can help you out, but I don’t have that browser in front of me to figure it out.

There’s no actual error message. The entire left pane is blank, so none of the feeds are visible. Also, trying to get to the preferences menu (by clicking the little icon at the very top right) doesn’t work. The little icon to the right of “Premium Account” isn’t animated like it usually is, either. Using the “Window–>Activity” menu, it appears all the page’s resources did load, so it’s odd that it’s not working.

As a “last resort”, I manually deleted the newsblur.com cookies in Safari (the only way I could “log out”), and tried to log back in. Unfortunately, nothing happens when clicking on the “Sign In” button on the home page. I was prompted for my keychain password when the page itself loaded (before even trying to click the sign in button), but no actual username/password menu showed up, and so one can’t even login using that browser anymore. Disabling Javascript makes no difference when trying to sign in (and re-enabling it again made no difference).

It is working with Opera (version 25.0.1614.50), so that’s the workaround for now.

Can you hit “Command+option+c” and go to the console to see what error messages you get?

Hello,
Having the same issue with Google Chrome Version 21.0.1180.90, on an older MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.8.

The console reports “common.js:982 TypeError: ‘undefined’ is not a function (evaluating ‘console.clear()’)”

Can you do me a favor and see if you get an error on debug.newsblur.com. Don’t use that server except this once to test for an error. I just need the line number and file. And a screenshot would be super helpful.

I received the same error message in the console as Garth reported, in Safari 5.1.10:

TypeError: ‘undefined’ is not a function (evaluating ‘console.clear()’)    common.js:982

on the homepage (trying to sign in).

Using debug.newsblur.com, I get the same error, but on a different line/file, i.e. reader.js:8
Since I can’t sign in at the moment in Safari, I can’t do the screenshot of what it looked like when signed in. Essentially, everything to the left of the “What’s New” (i.e. the entire left pane) was blank.

Ok, try now. Fixed that errant line.

Success!!! I was able to login successfully, and I can see all the feeds in the left pane again, in Safari 5.1.10.

Thanks. Hopefully the issue is fixed for others following this thread too.

Likewise, it is working again for me.

thanks.
