Pressing Space bar while in "Feed view" opens the story instead of scrolling down

I think the latest update on the Newsblur.com Web app broke the behavior of the Space bar when Feed view is selected as Default view in Preferences:

Scrolling stories using the space bar while in single story mode now jumps to the next story when you hit the bottom.

The current behavior is the following: when I open a feed and press Space, the first story is expanded/opened and I can see its contents. Pressing multiple times on Space opens the following stories. If I press “X” to close a story and then press Space, the list of stories is scrolled downwards without opening their content.

The previous behavior was that when a Feed was opened, pressing the Space bar scrolled the list of stories downward without opening the content. This is the behavior I got accustomed to and it makes sense.

The current change brakes my current workflow. I’m hoping you’ll bring back the behavior of the Space bar in the Feed view.

Thanks.

It’s possible this is a bug, as it doesn’t sound like the right behavior. Can you post a screenshot? I’m not sure I have the same mode settings as you do.

Also note that I just fixed the Full view and List view, although Feed view launched without issue.

Ohh, I see what’s going on. Instead, pressing space after hitting ‘X’ should open the next unread story. I’ll fix that now.

OK, this has been fixed and deployed.

Hmm… I refreshed, cleared my caches and pressing Space in Feed view still opens the stories’ content instead of scrolling down the list with the stories closed like before…

Here’s a screenshot with my view; I want to keep the stories closed when I press Space and the list scrolls down:

Ah-ha, you want to disable the new behavior of having space bar automatically open the first story. Have you tried the new “mark stories read on scroll” setting on dev.newsblur.com? That would mark stories as read as you scroll down.

Anyway, I will probably add a preference tomorrow that allows you to change the behavior.

I checked “mark stories read on scroll” setting on dev.newsblur.com and it doesn’t do what I need; I don’t think it does what it claims it does either…

To summarize: In “Default Layout: List”, “Default view: Feed”, “Default story order: Newest first, All stories”, pressing Space was scrolling the list down without opening any story to see its content. To see the content I was pressing “j” (down) and “n” (next). Pressing Shift+Space scrolled the list upwards. I would like this behavior back…
