My openrss.org feeds aren’t working and this the message when trying to pull up a feed.
“Access to feeds has been restricted because we’re receiving a higher than usual amount of traffic. This significantly raises the costs of running the service beyond what our donations can cover.”
I know we had this issue before and it was corrected. I’m not sure if they are saying there’s an issue with NewsBlur or simply that everyone has to pay now. They seem to have a “Verified Feed Readers” program that may help us so I’ve linked that below
My openrss feeds seem to be working. But I’m using Android version so maybe that’s it?
I believe their verified program just requires Newsblur to send them its IP addresses for access. Your issue may be because of the IP address you’re using. Is it newsblur’s IP address?
Hmm… It should be coming from NewsBlur’s IP. All I know is they aren’t updating. When I try to go to a feed URL in my browser, for instance https://openrss.org/rumble.com/c/TheHighWire, I get that error message with or without a VPN running so I assumed that’s an error NewsBlur is running into too. I wonder why yours would be working, but not mine. That’s strange.
I don’t get that error when I visited your openrss link. That tells me that it’s likely your own IP address being rate limited. But yeah my openrss feeds are working on Newsblur right now.
Beats me why openrss is struggling with NewsBlur’s fetches. I’ve been working with Mark at openrss for a couple years now on adjusting how newsblur fetches openrss’s feeds. NewsBlur is also a verified reader, so I don’t know why this is popping up.
The links still seem to be working for me. I can see my openrss feeds working in Newsblur. I have about 20 of them. I’d say just reach out to openrss. I’m sure they can probably tell you more about how to fix the issue.
Emailed openrss about this and they are saying Newsblur is a verified reader but it is getting 429s for making too many requests and not waiting for max-age to expire.
Sam I may be wrong but I interpret that to mean that being verified doesn’t mean Newsblur can’t still get a 429
Oh ok. They said that nothing has changed on their end and that Newsblur seems to be getting better but still makes too many requests from many IPs causing it to get 429s. Some openrss feeds still work for me tho but not all
