Old stories showing up in Rock Paper Shotgun feed

I’ve only noticed it in this one feed, but it persists through a refresh of the site.

Hey Jason, I looked into this. RPS publishes around 9 stories a day, so unread stories can pile up quickly across your 30-day unread window. What you’re seeing is likely a backlog of stories from the past few weeks that hadn’t been marked as read yet, not old stories being republished.

If you’re seeing something different from that (like stories from months or years ago), let me know and I’ll dig further. Just give me hints about what you read and what’s coming back.

I don’t think it’s an RPS problem. I didn’t notice it earlier, but it shows up on other sites. On Apartment Therapy, it’s showing an old article from a different site. The odd stories are always indented for some reason. Perhaps that’s some feature I’ve never used, but I only started seeing this today.

Another example from Lifehacker showing indented stories from not only Lifehacker but AT and RPS.

Also, I will pretty much never have 30 days unread. While I may go two to three days, I clear everything out almost every other day. In the Lifehacker example above, the oldest story I have not marked as read is from yesterday but the odd indented stories are from 4 and 5 days ago.

Ohhh, that’s the new story clustering feature. You can disable that, but read more about it here: https://blog.newsblur.com/2026/03/18/story-clustering/

Ahh. Promptly turned that off.
