I updated the iOS app a few minutes ago, and now the NewsBlur app doesn’t show any images. I checked on 2 different 3rd party apps, and everything seems to work as it should, so it seems like it’s just the official app.
Can you post a screenshot of the missing image? I just checked and it’s looking good to me, so I want to make sure I understand the context.
The first one is in the NewsBlur iOS app, the second one is in Fiery Feeds, and the third one is in Unread.
Hmm, I have noticed a similar issue with some new feed entries + emails on iOS as well. I haven’t sat down to try and put together a reproduction but just +1ing that there may be something odd?
Hmm, it’s a weird one.
I had a look at this particular Europa Clipper XKCD using an iOS man in the middle proxy as an example
For reference, this story can be found at story_hash 8268588:0922b2
The underlying image itself is fine and so is the Newsblur proxied image found at https://imageproxy.newsblur.com/sc,sfKD24miH-CTMKTf7rW8pHqBYgUjMSlPtg3494kUJXG0=/https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/europa_clipper.png
That would suggest the actual content is making it to the iOS app just fine. I can also hold on the broken image, hit “Copy image” and successfully paste the image into Apple Notes which would suggest the image is also not being corrupted locally in any way.
Given all that, it seems everything is technically fine, just that rendering fails for particular articles. I can’t spot any obvious patterns. Most XKCD posts all work fine on iOS and they’re all png so it’s nothing weird like one image happening to be a unique format
@Dejal I’m seeing this as well. Let’s get this fixed asap.
I’ll add that it’s broken even when backing out and reopening any story. And even when switching between the Text view and Story view. All images are busted.
Deleting cached stories seems to fix it
I’ll investigate.
This was tricky to reproduce, but I was able to do so. It seems that iOS 18 broke displaying locally cached images. So now it uses a different approach. Version 13.1.5 incoming with a fix.
Version 13.1.5 is now live in the App Store!
Thank you so much for taking care of this!
Thanks! It all seems solid now
