NewsBlur jumps to second unread entry

When browsing through my feeds by pushing the ‘n’ key NewsBlur jumps to the second entry in the panel with all the entries of the feed, marking the fist (latest) news item as read which forces me to manually go back to this item by pressing ‘k’.

See attached screenshot. After hitting ‘n’ which opens this feed in story mode NewsBlur jumps right to the second item in the list when I expect it to go to the first item. Both the first and the second item were unread before hitting ‘n’.

This behaviour is reproduceable on Firefox 10.0.2 on XP and on the latest Safari on my Mac (Lion) at home which I can’t check atm as I’m in the office.

On my Mac I’m running Lion (10.7.3) with Safari 5.1.3 (7534.53.10) with several add-ons and Glims.

Fantastic job finding this issue. Here’s the code: https://github.com/samuelclay/NewsBlu…. Fixed and deployed.

By deployed do you mean that this bug should be fixed on newsblur.com? I’m sorry to report that it isn’t. Anyway, thanks for looking into it.

I’m trying to bump this topic as I’m still having this issue.

I often have the same issue when clicking on a feed name. It goes to the 2nd item even if that item is already read.

What view are you guys in? Story/Feed/Original?

I can’t reproduce right now. Pretty sure it’s in Feed view.

This happens to me only in story mode. No matter whether I press ’n’ or click on the feed in the feed list, it happens every single time.

Dalmet, the issue is that I can no longer reproduce this bug. Last week I thought I fixed the issue I found. And it’s no longer happening when I’m in Story mode. Are you defaulting to Story mode in all feeds? Any other light you can shine on this?

I am defaulting to Story mode in feeds that do not display the full post content. It happens only in those feeds. I can reproduce this 100 % on Win/Mac (Safari, Firefox).

Feel free to ask me for any further information / assistance. I’d really love to see this fixed.

I’m inviting you to the social private beta. See if it’s fixed there. Make sure you added your email to http://dev.newsblur.com

I’ve added my email there but haven’t received my invitation yet. I also checked my spam and other folders.

Should have gotten it now. Just sent out a bunch.

Thanks, got it. Unfortunately the issue is not fixed in the beta.

Doh. OK, I have a rather substantial branch coming up in the next month that will revamp how models work. This should fix the issue, but it won’t launch until mid-to-late May. The good news is that it’s guaranteed to launch by then since I have to present the Backbone-ification of NewsBlur at the end of May at BackboneConf. I realize it’s asking a lot to wait until then, but it’ll be a cure-all that also offers a huge speed improvement to the front-end. Is this bug a big blocker for you, or would you be willing to hold off for a little while longer?

No problem, this is not a huge deal breaker.
