I’ve had this issue for several months. I tried a solution from a post in September but it did not resolve it for me. The Mac app launches and immediately closes. I could not find any errors in the console logs.
I removed these two folders and tried reinstalling, with no luck:
Deleting the local data suggests that there’s something with the server data that causes the crash, but I think we investigated that possibility before.
A crash log might provide clues, or yes, the Console might have a clue. @ktooth you could email them to me at support@dejal.com if you like; I’d be happy to work with you to trace the issue.
I may need a little more guidance. When I look in the console, I do not see any crash log associated with Newsblur. I also don’t see anything in system.log or diagnostics with a relevant time stamp.
When I launch the app, the app window flashes and closes immediately (milliseconds). I don’t really see any clues.
Is there something to do to enable logs or could there be a peculiar permissions issue that would trip up this app but not others? If there’s another place to look or a particular log I am missing, let me know
Very odd… if it works on another of your Macs, that indicates it isn’t server-side data. And you’ve eliminated client-side data; I can’t think of any other data locations on your Mac. It’s a recent Mac and current OS, too.
Open Console, start streaming, type NewsBlur in the search field and hit Return, then open NewsBlur. See if anything shows up in the Console.
I started over and removed the two container folders again. I still do not see any log activity when I launch this app.
Are these two folders the only two items I need to remove? The previous conversation I saw on this topic in September mentioned removing a container folder with a GUID name. I don’t have a matching folder, but could there be another to search for? I feel like a property file or something got corrupted and needs to be rebuilt, but I haven’t been able to locate anything searching in the ~/Library folders. Could something be stored at the system level?
Yes, it does feel like some damaged file, but I can’t think of any other location. The app is sandboxed, so all data are in the two container folders. The ~/Library/Containers/NewsBlur container folder is actually located at ~/Library/Containers/com.newsblur.NewsBlur if you use Terminal; the Finder hides the details, just displaying it as NewsBlur.
