Certain feeds seem to take the keyboard focus so that shortcuts do not work. I use Chrome and I notice this sometimes with the Engaget feed and the Slashdot feed. I can click below my feed list and get the focus back for the shortcuts to work again, but it means reaching for the mouse when I’m already going through my list with my keyboard.

Yeah, you might want to stick with the Feed view or List view to overcome that.
I use the Feed view, that is where I experience the issue.
