login on front page and lastpass

I am checking out NewsBlue from Google reader. I am Mac user running Chrome and user Lastpass for password management. However, unlike many other sites as you have your login and sign up text boxes on the same page the password management apps get confused. Everytime I try to autologin it fills in the new user signup rather than login. Its not really a LastPass problem, and I am sure 1Password etc would have the same issues. Not sure if you have other people who have mentioned this ?

Thanks

You should have no trouble logging in by using the signup form.

Your a genius! That’s why I spent the time writing this post when in fact I don’t have any problems at all!

It doesn’t work, guess time to find another google reader replacement.

Hey Paul

You need to edit your Lastpass settings for it to work.

In your Lastpass settings for Newsblur (Edit Site) go to Edit Form Fields (bottom right). Add 2 fields, 1 named login-username (text) and 1 named login-password (password). Fill in their values appropriately. You can also remove the other fields when you’ve populated those.

Save your changes and then refresh the Newsblur login pages. The correct input fields will now be auto-populated if you’ve done it correctly.

Logging in using passpack doesn’t work. It would be great if you could additionally provide less fancy login page for all the people that use password managers

Thanks! That fixed it. Did not occur to me to check the form fields.

Great tip  But I think that only tech-savvy users will manage to do this on their own or go to the trouble of finding the solution here. Most of the users will simply acknowledge the fact that it doesn’t work and blame Lastpass or NewsBlur for this. The way to go is to provide simple, old style login page

I was grumpy after my first post, however my problem is now resolved. Saying that I could not agree more with your comment. There is going to be a major land grab opportunity for a Google reader replacement and these new companies should be jumping over themselves to make a product we all want.

I am not one of those people that believe everything should be free and very happy to pay for a service, if it meets my requirements.

One extra thing that annoys me is how sharing works such as Pinboard, way too many clicks!. Took me ages to find where you ever share an article, and then you have to login etc etc. Google reader was never this complicated.

I like NewsBlur so far, although I do find the UI very very messy and overloaded even with the latest UI update. I am not sure what was special about google reader, but It was the perfect site. It was my most visited site, and spent many hours reading posts. Feedly is ok - but they have gone the other way, and i hate its not full-screen. TheOldReeder is ok, but did not click with it.

It works with roboform!
