iOS: Black mode not black

On NewsBlur 14 for iOS, when using the Black appearance of the Dark theme, the backgrounds of both

  • the list of feeds when I open the app and
  • the list of stories when I open a feed

are grey, not black.

By changing the Dark appearance to Black, the background must be black. It looks terrible on an OLED screen to have the backgrounds be any color other than #000000 in Dark Mode.

The very nature of having that Dark appearance option is so that those who like Grey can have grey backgrounds and those who like Black can have black backgrounds. I’ve tried toggling between them and it didn’t help.

Please ensure that Black mode is truly black.

Opinions seem to be split on whether dark themes should be full black or not, but Newsblur has a dark/grey and a black theme and it that case the backgrounds in the black theme should definitely be black and they were until this update.

I agree here. The dark theme isn’t dark enough. I think there is room for a darker version. The light grey theme has almost no contrast, so it’s impossible to read.

So just to confirm, you want black, like pure black, on the feed list, the story titles, and the story content. That’s a lot of black, but I guess that’s what that black theme is for. I’ll see if I can make that change.

Hey Sam,

I think we are referring to the listing of story titles for the most part.

.NB-dark .left-pane is a very light, rgb(67, 69, 67);

When it can be much darker, even the forum color of #222222 would be an improvement. They don’t have to be 100% black. I know as a designer myself, I avoid pure black whenever possible, though some in this post want pure blacks.
