It’s definitely feasible. Not trivial, but the server endpoint API seems simple enough, and it’s possible to capture text selection in stories via JavaScript injection and WKWebView handlers.
We already have a GitHub issue for this as you linked above (#1698 iOS Highlighting), which has been making its way up my priority list.
