Sometimes NewsBlur uses a rather high amount of CPU and battery on my android phone. I’m running a 2013 Moto X with Android 4.4.4. It seems to be worse on weekdays when I am commuting via train through several low signal areas. This is with 9h44m on battery and 2h37m of screen on time. I definitely wasn’t using newsblur for the majority of the time.
Was this from the hours right before you posted, by chance? There were some connectivity issues for some users, and it looks like the app might not handle them terribly well.
I’ll be taking a deeper look this week into getting the app to more gracefully handle situations like these, not to mention overal CPU usage (actively using the app does chew slightly more power than I would like).
This was seen around 5pm Pacific time yesterday, so the actual consumption happened in the ten hours prior based on when I stopped charging. I’ll keep an eye on it and see if I can pinpoint a narrower timeframe, but I do suspect it has to do with connectivity. Thanks for looking into it.
Thanks for the report. I am actively looking into how we behave during avaiability issues and even going to take a full pass at getting battery usage a bit lower during reading: https://github.com/samuelclay/NewsBlur/issues/723
