Forwarding e-mail newsletters with Thunderbird?

The instructions for e-mail newsletter support provide steps for setting up forwarding from Gmail, but I was wondering if anyone had gotten newsletter support working from a local Thunderbird setup? Ideally, I’d like that logic to remain client-side so that it’s portable across e-mail providers, and so that it’s located in the same place as my other filters.

In particular, when I try to use Thunderbird’s “forward mail to” filter action, all of the e-mail newsletters handled by my filters appear in NewsBlur as a single newsletter with my name as the newsletter name. Articles in the new newsletter each have “Fwd:” in their title, and open with the same “Forwarded Message” metadata block I’d expect to see from within my e-mail client.

Is it possible to do client-side forwarding for NewsBlur e-mail newsletters? Thanks for the help!

Oh man, thunderbird literally forwards the newsletters? Yeah that’s hard. I suppose we could process the forwarded headers. I’ll see if I can do that tomorrow.

Good news, I found the Thunderbird forwarded message format and NewsBlur now handles it.

For new forwarded newsletters, NewsBlur should read the original forwarded headers, use the original sender as the newsletter feed, remove the forwarded message header block from the story body, and drop the Fwd: prefix from the title.

This applies to new messages from now on. The already forwarded test messages will stay as they are, but the next one should come in as Clarion West instead of Cassandra Granade.
