I keep NewsBlur as a pinned tab on all my browsers, but unfortunately it uses more memory and cpu than all my other tabs. about:performance consistently lists NewsBlur as a performance problem. I’d close it but I’m addicted to quick and easy access…

I’d think about maybe switching to a different view. The List and Grid views do a better job of keeping memory and CPU usage down, as it only allows a single story to be shown at a time. Alternatively, you can use Split or Full view with single story mode (under the Style popover).
One thing, at least on Chrome, is that the Newsblur tab’s memory count includes all of the child tabs that you’ve opened from it. For me, this usually means that 10 tabs of stories I want to read, and 2-3 youtube video tabs, all get counted as Newsblur…
Just tested that, judging by the built in task manager all child tabs share a process but it is separate from the parent tab’s process. Killing the child tab process killed all child tabs but did not affect the parent.

I use split view set to single story, always have. For most sites I have feed view set, for I couple I use story.
Most of the time the RAM use is reasonable and with practically no CPU use. Seemingly randomly it starts using 25-30% and doesn’t stop until the tab is reloaded or task is killed. Obviously it can’t be random but it usually starts when I’m not at the computer and very little should be going on.
