Fetching story text doesn't work (Android)

Hey guys, I see the recent release prevents Android from prefetching all story text, which make sense in terms of reducing load.

My problem is that now when I manually click story, articles get stuck on “fetching story text…” across several feeds. The text never loads after waiting +30 seconds, closing and reloading the feed, and sometimes closing the app as well. I’ve cleared cache so it’s likely not an issue on that side.

How long is this supposed to take?

I’m on Android, latest version of the app, beta tester. Started experiencing this issue a few days ago.

We’ll get that fixed! You shouldn’t even have to tap the Text butto wince it should be sticky per feed, even when reading in a folder with many feeds.

@andrei

As Sam mentioned, once you select your view style it will stick for the entire feed. Once a new story is in view, it will fetch the story text on demand.

Which feed doesn’t fetch the story text? I can check the logs

@andrei it seems inconsistent these past days, for example I set NYT - Top Stories to instafetch stories, waited for it to refresh, but on trying to load full content I get the spinning state “Fetching Story Text” and the content never resolves. Yet other content in the feed will load fine.

@samuelclay I push a commit to help with this issue and it’s awaiting your review.

Any update on this one? I’m still seeing the app hang after loading full text and creating a cache of about 130MB. The only way I’ve found to solve it is to clear both my cache and personal settings, then log in again. I’m doing that about once a day.

This morning I was able to fetch story text for a CBC article, clicked out of the story, clicked back in a few seconds later to read it again, and the text refused to load for the same story. So it’s not a feed issue.

Any chance you can get the feed url, specifically the https://newsblur.com/site/<feed_id> url when you open the individual feed on the web for CBC? That way @andrei can add it and test that feed directly.

Sorry for the delay, back now.

These are a few:

https://newsblur.com/site/171258/financial-post-top-stories
https://newsblur.com/site/9426/cbc-top-stories-news

I note that it only happens on the mobile app though - loading via desktop browser is fine

@andrei Can you try these feeds and report back with speed differences between web and android?

There were a few fixes applied and version 13.4.2 is in the pipeline to be released.
