Feed keeps adding back read stories as unread.

It marked everything as unread back to your last mark all as read date. Let me ask you, when you saw ZeroHedge today, did it show 33 unreads or 232 unreads? Did you read about 33 stories earlier today? When you read those stories, did you just start where you think you left off the day before, with the 199 other unread stories sitting there? Or were they marked read, you read 33 unread stories from today, and only *then* did it show 232 unreads?

(I edited my post for clarity above, so make sure you read what’s here on the board and not just in email)

The 2nd way - there were only ~30 unread stories when I started, and as I was reading those and the other unread stories in that folder, then the ~200 old stories showed up in the ZH feed.

Once I finished reading all the current unread stories, I clicked back on the folder and confirmed that what had just got added was all old stories - except for one story which had come in as legitimately new while I was reading.

Wonder if it’s related, I will check for that if it happens again.

Also, I think if 7/23 was my last mark all as read date, I would have done it to mark them all as read to fix this.

Yes, it’s good that you didn’t mark as read. That way I could see what the database sees. Your stories were trimmed, but they shouldn’t have. Which makes me think the trimmer is fine, but the feed’s story id cache is showing up blank every so often. Why that’s happening I don’t know but I’m investigating.

This hasn’t happened for a little bit, but it just happened again right now.

I was reading the folder, and the ZeroHedge feed added back in a bunch of stories that I’ve read. I haven’t used the Android app or used ‘Mark as Read’ in a while, probably longer than 2 weeks. This time again it might have happened right when a fresh ZeroHedge story came in while I was reading the folder.

Please advise.

151 stories in this feed that shouldn’t be: http://newsblur.com/site/95462/zero-hedge

And now when I mark as read today, they all instantly come back as unread!

Is it only this feed or does this happen to any others?

It has happened to others a long time ago, but in the past few months only this feed.

I had 5 stories that I purposefully left unread on Monday night, because I wanted to read them but not right then. I didn’t get to reading this feed yesterday, although I did see it had accumulated maybe 50 unread stories. I go to read it now, and there are ~300 unread stories on this feed, dating back to the 13th. Now I have essentially lost forever those 5 stories which I wanted to read! Unless I go through each of the 300 old unread stories and try to remember the ones I hadn’t yet read which I wanted to. I understand I can use the save story feature, but sometimes I leave a story unread for a small amount of time instead.

This issue seems to be getting worse lately. Any more info I can provide, to help troubleshoot?

Thanks

Can you confirm that you’re subscribed to http://www.newsblur.com/site/95462/zero-hedge. Ensure that this is the URL when you are in your subscription to Zero Hedge.

I just noticed that their feed has something broken in it:

The feed’s original page link is different: http://www.zerohedge.com/fullrss2.xml to http://www.zerohedge.com/fullrss2.xml/component/option%2Ccom_docman/itemid%2C200023/gid%2C397/boombu…

I think this is happening because something is going on with the feed and it’s possibly causing the guids to flush (and thus your read history).

I’m going to mark the feed read periodically, and if it happens again, email me so we can do this quickly: samuel@newsblur.com

Yeah I can confirm the URL of the feed is http://newsblur.com/site/95462/zero-hedge

I will keep an eye on it and let you know if it happens again.

Thanks again for your assistance.

It happened again today, but this time it was all the feeds in my “Economics & Politics” folder - not just ZeroHedge, but http://newsblur.com/site/2414/mishs-global-economic-trend-analysis, etc.

Have been away for a bit and haven’t checked my Newsblur. Today I read some stories in that folder, then marked all as read. When I just returned a couple hours later, there are tons of stories unread, all the way back to Friday.

To be clear, this wasn’t specific to ZeroHedge like you had mentioned thinking it was before.

Please advise.

Thank you

I am having a similar issue that just started in the last few weeks or month. My issue is for any feed that has stories older than the limit allowed on the free account (14 days?). The unread count on the feed is correct, but in the feed the older stories will show as read even though I have my settings to only show unread stories. Once I read everything showing as unread in the feed, the feed disappears from my list (I have it set to only show feeds with unread items). However, when a new item appears all of the old items that were showing as read before are still showing. I cannot get rid of the older stories. They show up as read even though my settings are to only show unread items.

Happened today. I have started using NewsBlur more often again, and on the 3rd or 4th day of consistently reading the same feeds, the feeds in my Economics folder are messed up, and the unread count and stories go back to Oct 23rd on stories which I know I’ve read.

Any word on a fix or insight into what is happening? Frustrating, makes it hard to rely on NewsBlur as my go-to news source.

Thanks

I am experiencing this.

The RSS in question is:  http://www.zerohedge.com/rss.xml

The new blur URL is:  https://newsblur.com/site/95462/zero-hedge

(or if I select ‘all stories’).  It appears to have stopped accepting mark as new on or around Dec 17th.
If I ‘mark all as read’ that seems to reset it, but then it’s stuck again at whatever day I give up and decide to do that.

(Is not iOS specific, same for Web or iOS Client, but I searched and found this and wanted to add to this)
