I’m connected to my Facebook and Twitter account, but recently, when I share a story to either of these networks, it doesn’t actually post.

Both of them should work, so try disconnecting and reconnecting (Manage > Friends). I really need to build a notifier for when they fail, but the actual posting happens in a background task, so I would have to notify you afterwards somehow.
