I hope there is no problem to add that timezone.
It wasn’t part of the spec that I used to create the timezones. Is the time offset not listed, even if it isn’t your country? What offset (-5, +7, etc) are you looking for?
Weird, I didn’t realize that SofĂa Vergara got her own time zone. You learn something new every day!
we are talking about country timezone
Samuel Clay, it’s GMT+2 but that’s not the point .
(UTC+02:00) Helsinki, Kyiv, Riga, Sofia, Tallinn, Vilnius
You should be able to use any of the other +02:00 timezones. The names are just for convenience. Kiev is the same timezone as Minsk, which is listed.
I didn’t want to sound pedantic, just though it would not be hard to update your list in case of other people are searching for their own missing countries. For sure that would improve the premium account experience
I’ll add the word Kiev to the Minsk option, but it won’t launch for a bit. Launching static assets takes a bit more work.
But I’m from Sofia/Bulgaria , not Kiev/Ukrain . I hope there’s no misunderstanding, at least if you could add Sofia …
I live in San Francisco, but there’s no SF option in any time zone selector. I have to choose LA, but that’s OK because they are the same -08:00. Those titles are only used in the preferences drop-down. It’s all numbers everywhere else.
Everyone knows their time zone. Please don’t waste people’s time with trivial things. If you have the need to find reasons to feel ostracized, there are plenty of other places on the internet that can help you with that.
I think some people are missing the point here. A timezone is more than just an offset, which is why the list has more than just 24 entries.
GMT+0 is on there 5 times. I picked the London one, as I pick on everything, and in a month summer time will kick in and magically change everywhere to ay GMT+1 next to London, and I won’t have to change it by hand. This is an essential thing as there are many hundreds of places I would have to change it, which just isn’t practical.
As it happens Bulgaria and Ukraine both use EET/EEST, but there is a lot more to timezones than just an offset or naïvely claiming them to be “trivial”, is somewhat missing the point.
I’m just surprised by the request, since I use a standardized list of time zones. So I figure the original request must be sent to every single web service the poster uses, since nobody will have that timezone by default.
I apologize. Total lack of understanding on my part.
Sam, you have the patience of a saint. IMO it’s pretty silly. I live near SF, and I often must pick LA for my timezone, and as much as I would like to disavow everything in Southern California, I don’t kvetch about having to do so. If I had to pick Vancouver that would be fine, and that’s another country entirely.
For the sake of not ruin my experience in newsblur please ignore my inquire. Your list miss entire nations (not metropolitan areas as quoted in the trolling example) so it’s pointless to continue this debate. Most likely the confusion from my side came from the fact that here in Europe we are divided by national country codes and that I personally use UTC EET timezone, also Sofia is part of the Principal cities used for UTC+2. Please check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_… ( or http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libra…) to see that for me it wasn’t a matter of extending the “standard”. It’s the first time I’m not founding my Principal City in the timezone options and of course it’s not like my job to moan about that. Thanks for your time.
Perhaps you chose the wrong standardized list. The one in pytz contains Europe/Sofia and lots of other timezones that are currently missing from NewsBlur.
