Default range of Mark All Read changed recently

I’ve been using Newsblur as a paid customer since 2013. There’s a strong muscle memory for Shift+A = Mark Everything as Read. Recent update changed the default range from “all” to 1d.

One of the defining features of Newsblur for me is “don’t ‘fix’ things that are not broken”. I hope we can go back to the default all, and give people an option to adjust default range in the preferences.

Thank you!

This change wasn’t intentional so please don’t assume things are getting worse. Where are you, iOS or the web? And are you reading in a feed, a folder, or on everything? And do you have any settings around when stories get marked as read? I need more context because I’m not seeing what you’re talking about.

Right, I apologize for a terse comment, was a bit upset! It’s truly a blessing to be able to use a software almost daily for 10+ years and this is my first complaint ever  Thank you, Samuel!

It happens on the web, Mac OS, Brave browser. I’m on the /folder/everything page and press Shift+A after I finished checking the list for anything interesting (which I will typically select and press “S”-ave for later). The 1 day is there by default and I need to drag it back to left (“every story”).

For the settings, I have “Show confirmation when marking everything read”, “Don’t automatically mark stories as read” (on scroll). (PS: I also noticed that “Daily Briefing” setting is not saved if I disable it. But I don’t see the briefing since my default folder is All Site Stories anyway.)

Ahh, Daily Briefing hasn’t been launched yet (will soon, I’m still tweaking it), but I’ll get that preference fixed. After looking into it, it failed to save because the backend was staff-only gated, but the global preference was not, so it failed for non-staff. A non-issue, but I removed the preference for non-staff so you won’t even see something you can’t use until it’s actually launched.

As for this dialog, I did in fact change it quite a bit last week. I think what it should do it remember your last setting so it’s defaulted to what you last did. I’ll make that change now … deployed, let me know if that works for you.

It works now (remembering the last range), thanks a lot!
