Since a few days the counter of the stories unread is incorrect for most but not every sources, both on android and on the web.
On the web I tried refresh, clear cache and delete cookies but the only think that works it’s an Instant-fetch for each source (works too on android), for exemple:
1 story on the counter, 7 actually on the feed
