Android: Leaving App Focus and Returning Loses Scroll Location

14.3.2 I believe this is a regression. If I’m reading an article, scroll part of the way down, temporarily leave the Newsblur app (e.g., to respond to a text) and then return, the article I was reading is still loaded, but I’ve lost my scrolling progress and am back at the top. The scroll location should be preserved.

The behavior here is changed but not fixed in version 14.3.3, Pixel 9 Pro, Android 16, CP1A.260405.005.

If I leave Newsblur, go to another app, then return, the spot in the article jumps a few lines. Example here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/19HmR-EAOPuoP_k3mMmVAyTXZGka84SOm/view?usp=drivesdk

But more importantly, if I leave Newsblur, go to two other apps, then return, the spot in the article jumps all the way back to the top. Example here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_k3IMoJ5l1XuX1QZGnKLY0_Wo0fTCR-u/view?usp=drivesdk

Let me know if I can provide anything else to pin this down.

Thank you!!

I experience the same bug. It’s quite disrupting, especially when I read long articles with links and quickly want to visit out a link and then come back to the article.

My similar and probably related issue is a real PITA. Definitely still happening with version 14.4.0 from F-droid. I’ve managed to roll back to version 13.12.3 and will keep that for the foreseeable.

P.S. Is there an RSS feed or web page link that can be used to track the release notes for Newsblur Android app releases?

I found and fixed the Android lifecycle issue that could cause the open story or scroll position to be lost after switching away from the app. The app was sometimes rebuilding the story view too aggressively when returning, so it could lose its place. Version 14.5.2 has been submitted and should be out in a day or two once Google approves the latest Android release.

Fantastic. Looking forward to it!

Just confirming this seems to have done the trick for me. Thanks again!
