Android app - rotation mark as read

Hi
There’s a bug with the android app, turning the phone mark the story as read and goes to the next one.
When on a story:

Then while turning the phone it goes to the next one:

What version are you on? I fixed this in 14.2.2, but I should probably confirm later tonight.

I’m on the 14.2.2

Fixed in Android v14.3.1 (v14.3 just went out last night).

No change for me on 14.3.1

Edit: it doesn’t work on a folder, but seems to work on a single source only

Sorry but I cannot reproduce the bug no matter what I tried. Can you take a video to show it happening?

Wha device is this? Also would you mind using the send feedback button in the app so I can capture the logs and build info? It’s in the main menu on the feed list.

i’m seeing it too. just emailed.

still happening with 14.3.2: i just triggered it from the all stories list.

It does not mark as read now, it seems to just go next, and it does not happen at every rotation… That’s strange…

I’ve been seeing this as well; I’ll try to get some reproduction details next time I’m using the android app…

i changed the mark as read setting to manual. i left after mark read set to stay here.

if i open a story, rotate it, rotate it back, it stays on that story.
if i open a story, mark it as read, rotate it, rotate it back, it moves to the next story even though after mark read is set to stay here.

Thanks for sticking with this. I found another place where the Android reader could restore from the pager’s current position instead of the story that was actually visible on screen after a manual mark read. That fix will be in Android 14.3.3, the next build, now in the Play Store review queue.

I also added more logging around reader restore, including cases where the visible story and pager story disagree. If this still happens after 14.3.3, please send app feedback right after it happens so I can inspect logbuffer.txt in that feedback email and see exactly what the reader restored to.

still a problem in 14.3.3

i will note that it only occurs on the first rotation: if my list is portrait and i open a story in portrait and rotate it landscape, it switches to the next story, but it doesn’t switch again if i then rotate that next story back to portrait. it’s not portrait-to-landscape-specific: the same is true if my list is landscape and i start from there. first rotation, no matter which direction.

and also that while it’s marking the first story as read when it switches, it’s not also marking the new story it opens as read.
