I have discussed the problem with the company. They cannot find any problems.
When loading the XML-file in e.g. Chrome everything looks fine. The certificate is valid etc. Why is the w3-validator failing? The web browser says everything is fine.
Tell them to check an actual SSL validator, then go to their CA’s help website and follow ALL the instructions.
Their server uses one of GeoTrust’s intermediate certificates (“DV SSL G3”), which most browsers seem to include in their trust store by default. Operating systems, however, don’t – they just include GeoTrust’s root cert and expect servers to provide a full certificate chain. Try getting that page with curl or wget to see the issue.
