Great idea, and thanks for the thoughtful write-up. You’re right that this has been a request made over the years, and I’ve historically optimized for keeping email to a minimum, emailing just a receipt after you’re charged. My thinking was always that since it’s a relatively small annual charge, most people just want to know when they’ve paid, not be reminded beforehand. And for anyone who changed their mind, I’ve always been happy to give an immediate refund.
That said, I hear you, and I’ve gone ahead and added this. There’s now an opt-in checkbox in your Account settings under the Payments tab, right below “Change your credit card.” If you check “Email me 3 days before my subscription renews,” you’ll get a courtesy heads-up three days before the charge goes through. It’s off by default, so nothing changes for anyone who doesn’t want it.
