Hi there - if I click a feed from the sidebar, and want to open the first story in that feed in a background tab, I try to hit ‘v’. It doesn’t work, so I click the top story (marking it as read), and hit ‘v’ again. Still doesn’t work, at which point I remember I need to scroll a bit so the orange “NB-selected” marker gets applied to the story’s heading, and _then_ I can hit ‘v’ in a background tab.
Any chance that the ‘open story’ shortcuts could be made to work even if you haven’t yet started scrolling down the list of stories?
