Newsblur 5.0.1 won't launch in iOS 9.1 on older devices

On an iPhone 4s and an iPad 2, both running iOS 9.1 and Newsblur 5.0.1: when I start Newsblur, I see the newsblur spash screen for about 20-30 seconds and then it crashes back to the home screen.

Interestingly, Newsblur 5.0.0 had the same behavior on my iPhone 4s (also would not launch), but worked on my iPad2. (Obviously Newsblur 4 worked fine on both.)

I think it works fine on my wife’s iPhone 5s and iPad Air, but I’m not positive she upgraded to NB 5.

(Is there any way to downgrade back to 4?)

To future visitors: I was able to resolve this problem by uninstalling the app (deleting all local data) then installing and signing in again. My best guess is that the old v4 app data was crashing v5 on startup.
