So sometimes I go on holiday or I just get busy, and when I’m back I have 800+ items. Some folders I just mark all as read, but with some I’d like to mark all items older than a day as read. Extending this, it would be nice to be able to configure the top 3 periods for this function - I’d probably use “Older than 1 hour”, “Older than 12 hours”, and “Older than 1 day”.

Seconded. It would be nice to have more granular control over the “mark as read” function, both by being able to select only some folders to “mark as read” and by being able to provide a value measured in hours instead of days.
Don’t know how painful it would be to develop, and not a super-high priority by any means, but I like this idea very much.
Already there. Select the site, now at the top where the sites title and so on is there is a mark all as read button, on the left side of it is a small plus. Click the plus and you’ll get buttons for marking stories older than 1, 3, 7 or 14 days as read.
