Mark as Read by number of items, rather than date

Just back from a trip and facing thousands of unread items. I could Mark as Read by date. However, I’d really like an option to Mark as Read to leave some number of items unread in each feed. That way, I could easily scan the most recent stuff, including sites that update less often.

An interesting idea, but I worry this would complicate the UI. I think the date mark as read makes more sense, and that has yet to be built as well (on a per-feed basis).

OK, thanks. I can see that you wouldn’t want to complicate the UI. And with a date per feed that would work, as long as I could set the number of days per feed and Newsblur would save that for me.

As I said, the problem for me is the total number of new posts per feed. For a feed that does more than 5 a day, I just want the most recent day. For a feed that does less than 1 a day, I want them all.

I realise this may be complicated …

I have some feeds which aren’t very important and so when I come back from holiday I can’t be bothered with some of the junk. I wish there was a way to individually tidy some of them (by date or number) so that I could just see the most recent items.

Sure, you can either do this per feed by clicking on the “mark as read” plus sign that gives you the ability to select the number of days back to go, or go to Manage > Mark All As Read > Select # of days to do it in one fell swoop.

Yes but that is global, it isn’t available per feed?

Yes, click the little + button next to the mark read icon in the feed title bar at the top of the story titles pane.
