iOS NewsBlur Crashes

News Blur latest version 13.1 for iOS crashes when opening feeds.
My device is running iOS 16.7.

Crashing is not good. A screen recording of the crash might provide a clue; it’s possibly something data-specific.

I’m encountering the same problem. iPhone XR running 16.7.2. Every article I try to read since the 13.1 update causes the app to instantly close.

On my iPad, the app attempts to open … shows the splash page … and then disappears. The apps page shows it as running and it can be stopped, but there is no window. If you click the icon again, the action repeats … splash page, then disappears, then nothing. Running 13.1 NewsBlur and iOS 14.8.1

NewsBlur crashing on selecting stories to read.

Tried changing in app browser option, to no avail.

Same on iPhone 8, iOS 16.7.8

Same on iOS 15.8.3 on first gen iPhone SE. I’ll see a “mark all stories as read” button before the feeds/stories load. That is new behavior. When I click on a story, the app instantly crashes.

Thanks all. The good news is that the issue only seems to affect people running older iOS versions, so the majority of people using the latest version should be fine. But NewsBlur should support those older versions, so we’ll get it fixed.

I suspect I used a new API that isn’t supported on older versions. I don’t have an older device to test that, but I’m downloading an older version of Xcode to see if I can simulate the older version.

Okay, I’ve found and fixed the issue. (As I suspected, it was a new API, though I had marked it for version 17.0… but for Catalyst. I’ve updated it to iOS.) TestFlight underway.

@samuelclay, please merge the change from the Dejal branch, and do another release.

I’m glad this issue was fixed but for years, including with the current version, NewsBlur often crashes on iPad when adding a new feed. Anyone else? I deleted the app and reinstalled it, which didn’t help and I’m never doing that again as I had to redo all my preferences.
