For story view (and maybe feed view), include an option to show the story URI somewhere on screen. Make it easy to select this text so users can copy the URI to the clipboard. This would make it a lot easier to copy and paste story URIs (I realize there are sharing features, but lots of time I just want to copy the URI). At present, the only sure method I know is to copy a URI is to open the story in a new tab or window, and then copy from the location bar. Obviously, that’s kind of tedious.
Deployed. When you right-click a story title you will see the URL, where you can copy it to your clipboard.
NEAT!!!
On some sites, this feature is not showing the permalink. E.g., from the LA Times:
http://feeds.latimes.com/~r/latimes/n…
The URL redirects to permalink, so technically the feature is providing a valid URL for the story. But, thought you might want to know in case it’s something you want to obsess about (or are even able to address). (I’d personally prefer a permalink, but I could see how some people wouldn’t care.)
Thanks for the hard work! I love the site.
Yeah, that’s the link I’m provided. I could technically resolve the URL and figure out what the first non-300-level URL is, but that’s a ton of work for little benefit. It would also be somewhat slow. In a perfect world it would happen.
OK, fair enough. Thanks again for implementing this feature. Very cool.
