So the twitter api finally switched…did any sort of workaround appear for following twitter feeds or are we SOL thanks to twitter?

Twitter have intentionally ended this functionality with no means to replace it. 
The extraordinarily enterprising user can set up a replacement RSS provider using oauth and the new API (I did it using the ruby libs), but this cannot be done in a centralized way without violating the twitter TOS.
