When connected to a wifi network that doesn’t have connectivity, NewsBlur tries to go through the new user flow. Trying to go through the screens and unchecking “auto follow friends” causes the app to crash.
This case occurred when I went on a Southwest plane and had both cell and wifi on, but my wifi connected to the onboard wifi which only redirects you to their portal for all traffic until you pay.
