Constant rate limits on Mastodon and Hashnode blogs

Hi,

I’ve spent the last few weeks extensively testing various RSS readers inside out, and NewsBlur is by far my favorite - the feature set is amazing and I truly feel at home here.

However, I’m constantly running into “Rate limit reached” errors on several of my favorite feeds. It mostly affects multiple Mastodon instances (like fosstodon.org) and various developer blogs hosted on Hashnode.

Is there anything I can do on my end within NewsBlur to mitigate this? Or is this something that could be looked into on the server side (e.g., adjusting fetch intervals, tweaking the user-agent, or routing these specific platforms through a proxy pool)?

I really love NewsBlur and want to stick with it as my main reader. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot!

Glad to hear that you’re enjoying NewsBlur! Those feed fetch intervals will automatically adjust to fit what those sites allow. NewsBlur can be rather aggressive but if told to back off it will. Opening up the Statistics dialog will show you the expected intervals and the actual intervals.

OK, it looks like all these Hashnode pages stopped working at the end of 2024. I’ve noticed the same thing with other readers. However, when I manually visit the feed URL, I see the latest posts there.

There’s still an issue with some mastodon instances and several blogs from hashnode. But they all have working feeds. If I have to, I can do without these pages, but it would be nice if I didn’t have to.
