I use NB with Unread only / Oldest first. This makes for a very clean experience, but sometimes I switch away from the current feed by accident, and a story is “gone”.
The problem is, with oldest first selected, if I select all stories, I get lots and lots of entries, when the one I wanted is probably one of the last ones. But then if I switch to all / newest, I get them in a different order, and after reading what I wanted I have to switch back both options.
In addition, when you have no unread stories, you only get a “No stories to read” background.
So my proposal would be to add a “show previous stories” button that would display the latest day-or-less of read stories, allowing a quick peek at something without having to mess with other options (and then having to put them back).
I use NewsBlur very similarly to you, so something to quickly check the recent read items would indeed be nice to have, though I have no idea how much of a niche case this is.
This is not a frequent issue, but a highly annoying one when it happens. Some kind of way to return to the previous view exactly as it was would be nice.
Hold on, these are two separate issues. This thread is for a button that shows All Stories when you’re on Unread Only. The other thread has a new feature that keeps track of which stories you’ve recently read. I actually plan to build both, but not immediately. This is in my high priority list. I need to launch saved story tagging first.
