Android notifications resent when app is opened and story isn't marked read

Notifications on android are repeatedly sent. Every single notification makes an audible alert twice back to back. Notifications are resent when the app is open and occasionally in the background if the story isn’t marked as read.

First I’ve heard of this problem. I wonder if the app is storing notifications to be resent, but I don’t think that’s the case. In any case, try reinstalling the app and seeing if that fixes things.

Anybody else notice this? (I retitled this post to help find others with the issue).

Uninstalling and reinstalling did not change the notification behavior. This is on a Samsung Galaxy S10e.
